Wind power
We have been harnessing wind power for centuries, however, despite being the most windy country in Europe we have surprisingly few modern installations. Modern wind turbines are incredibly efficient and relatively low maintainance. However, the maxim 'location, location, location' has never been truer. It is very important to get a good clean flow of wind to your turbine. We are happy to provide a no obligation site survey to access your property for wind turbine suitability. We will help specify the best turbine for your location, and advise on the intallation costs and the energy and carbon saving you will be able to make.
Grants are available for the installation of wind turbines, see our 'Grants' page, or give us a call.
Wind turbines
Small turbines can be purchased for mounting on the roof at low cost and for minimal electricity needs. Though we try to avoid roof mounted applications as there is no guarantee these devices will not damage your property through vibration. We prefer to recommend free-standing turbines which are mounted on towers and can generate anything from 800w to 15kw. The prices range from £2-6k for the smallest turbines and up to £35 - 40k for a 15kw turbine. The most common enquiry is for a 6kw turbine and this is in the region of £20 to £25k installed.
Eco Environments are accredited installers of Proven Energy wind turbines. These are some of the most robust, quiet and efficient turbines on the market, they are available in 2.5kwp, 6kwp and 15kwp outputs. They generate minimal noise and require little maintainance.
A Proven turbine is designed to last for up to 25 years. It offers an excellent green energy investment opportunity, delivering benefits both to you and to your children.
As with Solar Photovoltaic panels, wind turbines are grid connected, this means you can sell the surplus electricity generated by your turbine back to your electricity supplier.
As mentioned location is particularly important for wind turbines, and a clean regular flow of wind is required if they are to be of significant use. Rural and coastal areas are best suited, but turbines are being increasing installed at Industrial estates and out of town retail and office parks.
